River Stewards program introduces new watershed data collection mapping

(Michigan TU Press Release) – The River Stewards program lead by Kristin Thomas has developed an exciting new website  consolidating  the data collection sites and specific type of information collected onto maps for individual water shed areas. Please check out the introduction to this exciting and useful site below:

You can now see where MITU volunteers are working hard to collect data around the state through the River Stewards Program. MITU recently added interactive maps to our website that show all of our data collection sites around the state. You can get to the maps from the MITU home page under Core Activities choose River Stewards Maps or just go to http://tinyurl.com/a78q68c to view the maps. There is a statewide map that shows sites by data type, you can choose a data type in the lower left corner of the map. There are also maps for each watershed we are working in so you can take a look at what is going on in your home watershed. You can select what watershed you want to look at on the right side of the page. When you click on a site it will tell you general site information for that location. Soon there will also be links to data summaries for most of the sites which will include the year(s) in which monitoring occurred. At this time only a limited number of summaries available. Look for the addition of data summaries in the spring.

These maps would not have been possible without the hard work of Liz Banda, the Huron Pines AmeriCorps member who served with MITU this year. She worked hard to get these maps up and running before her term of service was up. If you have any questions or concerns about the current maps please get in touch with Kristin Thomas ([email protected]) she will be keeping them up to date and adding details.
